Economic uncertainty, or even recessions, are not unusual, and surprisingly, they can be a fruitful period for freelancers. In our insights this week, we dive into why these uncertain economic times can bring prosperity to us self-employed folks!

If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.

🦄 Contractors Coming in Clutch

Freelancers serve as a vital lifeline for companies cutting costs by reducing their workforce. So don't fret about the recession talk; be proactive! Reach out to your existing contacts and tap into larger corporations' networks, sharing your skills and availability. Even if immediate work isn't available, you'll be on their radar for future needs, which could arise sooner than you think. Personally, I shoot emails or messages on LinkedIn to my contacts when my calendar looks light, and it consistently results in more projects than I can handle. Nurture your network—it's your safety net, brimming with freelance gigs during slower times. If you're lacking a network, start building one today by setting up coffee chats with fellow Freelancing Females. The world of self-employment offers a wealth of opportunities, especially when the economy's a bit wobbly!

📝 Work on Critical Projects

Amidst tales of project cancellations, layoffs and budget cuts, my calendar has remained full. Why? Because I'm on mission-critical endeavours. These are projects meticulously planned for months in advance, with allocated budgets, and are integral to brand-building, essentially– projects my clients can't do without. Securing a few critical projects is a great way to create stability in your income during uncertain times. To land critical projects, you need to become the trusted reliable problem-solver your clients don’t want to lose, as their projects are too crucial to fail.

If you're struggling to identify brands that prioritize their workers and the planet, look no further than World Changer.

Majors Project Pop

Our latest popcorn obsession- Major’s Project Pop! Founded by Chauniqua Major-Louis, often known as “Major”. Major loved popcorn but didn’t love the huge list of ingredients and preservatives found in most options. This inspired her to create her collection of organic, non-GMO kettle corn crafted using virgin coconut oil, vegan cane sugar, and Himalayan pink salt. We love Major’s commitment to People Over Profit, as a portion of the proceeds from each sale is dedicated to supporting BIPOC-led nonprofits that champion education and combat hunger in marginalized communities.
