FFN #16: Rest & Refuel- You Deserve a Break!

This week: Tips for taking time off, Setting boundaries, Relaxing, Jobs & More!

Rest and Refuel

Just like that we’re wrapping up our to-do’s for 2023. What a weird and wonderful year it has been. This week we are focusing on resting and recharging for the new year, we’ve gathered a few tips so that we can all step away from business confidently for a holiday break of seven days or more. To our beautiful community, I hope you have a restful break whenever that may be and take some time for yourself. I’m so grateful for each of you and I’m excited to see what 2024 holds for each of us!

Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from cares which will not withdraw from us.

🧾 Gettin’ Our Ducks in a Row

Thinking about money in the background on your break is like leaving apps open on your phone: it will recharge slower. To tackle this, create a budget for your rest time so you don’t even need to think about money. Over the break, will any money be auto-deducted from your accounts? Check your automated payments and make sure you know exactly how much you need in your business and personal accounts. Then cull any subscriptions you aren’t using. That way you aren’t left with any nasty shocks when you come back. Use the upcoming break as an excuse to get any late invoices paid for work you’ve already completed, we have a few beautiful invoice templates for you to use in the Freelance Shop. If you have extra money left over consider stashing it into an interest-accruing account or set aside for early taxes (boring we know) but you’ll appreciate it later!

✨ It’s Time to Set Some Boundaries!

Put em up, my friend! It’s time to set some boundaries so we can show up as our best selves next year and recharge properly. So here are a few ways we’re logging off this holiday break: Let’s start with phone usage. I will be setting my phone on Do Not Disturb, setting myself as away on Slack, deleting my work emails and apps from my phone, setting an ‘I’m on break’ message on my email and using Airplane mode while I’m with my loved ones. If you’re jumping off socials you can set up a cute ‘away’ message and if you’re staying active limit the amount of time you’re spending on there by scheduling posts ahead of time with platforms like Planoly. A few general things I love to do; block off my time in my calendar and store my devices away from my bedroom and leisure areas. Dipping my toes into analog solutions for my lifestyle needs such as an old-school alarm clock, a real camera, writing out workouts and using egg timers.

🧘🏽 You Deserve a Break

This holiday break is a time for you to really explore the types of rest that work best for you. Consider changing up your routines and carving out time for things you love. A few activities I’ll be prioritizing over the break; calling a friend I miss, changing the way I sleep: early bedtime, waking up before sunrise, a leisurely afternoon nap, white noise, sleeping with music, a new pillow. Trying a new healing modality such as guided meditations, acupressure, self-massage, a new workout class and new art forms. Letting my digestion rest: a day or two of fasting, vegan eating, and eliminating food and drinks that take a lot of energy to process. A day (or even just half day) of intuitive living, just for me- set aside all to-dos and focus just on what feels good in the moment, no guilt!

Kemma

I am obsessed with Ceramics at the moment. Does that mean I’m getting old? Maybe, but I’m at peace with it! I recently stumbled across the cutest mugs and bowls from Kemma. Drinking my chai out of their Daisy mug each morning brings me unbridled joy. I love the story behind the brand. Created by Emma Kaye each piece represents reconnecting to the simple joy of the everyday. A moment to slow down and reconnect. Something I am trying to practise more of- especially in 2024!

Siete

Lately, I've been focusing on the ingredients that go into my food. I love a good chip and dip to snack my way through the afternoon. So after hearing everyone and their dog recommend Siete, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and see what the fuss was about. I am so glad I did! Not only are their chips incredibly tasty, but they also boast top-notch ingredients and are free from gluten, dairy, soy, and grains. I'm baffled by the wizardry behind making them taste just as delicious as their gluten-filled cousins! This family-founded company has a wonderful mission – to promote real food and encourage healthier lifestyles, especially among Latino families. An all-round winner for your next snack hour, if you ask me!
