FFN #5: What's Your Ask, New Freelance Jobs & More

This week: Insights from over 1500 freelancers, your business prenup and finding support

What’s Your Ask?

During a networking event in ATX last week, we were presented with a unique chance to stand before an audience for 30 seconds, introducing our businesses and ending with our ASK. Imagine if you were in that spot right now—what would you say? This isn't just a quick intro; it's a useful tool you can harness strategically for business growth. The idea is to come up with a message that piques interest, shows your expertise, and explains what makes your business special. By figuring out what you want in a thoughtful way, you can find opportunities to work together, share resources, or get in touch with potential clients. As you think about what you'd say in this situation, think about how you can use this idea for your next pitch or connection.

The way we talk to ourselves matter.

✏️ Business Prenup

Just like a dynamic duo, think of your client contract as a business prenup. Just as you set the stage for a great partnership, your contract defines the game plan, responsibilities, and expectations. It's a shield against confusion and crossed wires. But it's not just about protection; it's about what you both gain. As you detail deliverables, deadlines, and cash flow, consider what you personally need from this collaboration. Beyond the dollars, think about the skills, insights, and opportunities. Your contract should be a launchpad for growth, a mutual journey to success. It's like writing a great story together – you both should emerge with accomplishments, expertise, and a robust network. A contract isn't just about sealing a deal; it's about setting the stage for an ongoing partnership.

✌️ Finding Support

Considering hiring your first subcontractor? It's a pivotal step that demands both financial and strategic evaluation. Start by assessing your own budget – can you afford to bring in external help without compromising your own sustainability? Then look at the bigger picture: hiring a subcontractor can free up your time to focus on high-value tasks giving you the ability to grow your business. Does the investment in support outweigh the budget? Remember, this move isn't just about money; it's about creating a dynamic that allows you to expand your reach and deliver even better results.

💻 Updating…

When’s the last time you updated your website? This week, give your online presence a fresh boost by updating your website and social media channels, especially if it's been a while. These platforms are often the first impression potential clients get of your work. Ask a friend to take a look and share their initial impressions. Their feedback can provide valuable insights into how your content resonates. To ensure a smooth client experience, send a friend your services for a symbolic dollar invoice and have them go through your entire onboarding process. This exercise can highlight any missing or confusing elements that might hinder potential client interactions. It's a small investment of time that can lead to significant improvements in attracting and retaining clients.

Crazy for Cactus

We’re lucky enough to be based out of Austin Texas where fresh nopales tacos are abundant just outside our front door. If you’re not in the know, cactus is delicious. They are a low-calorie food packed with gut-friendly fiber and antioxidants. Even more delicious, nopales are one of the most sustainable plants, as they require very little water to survive, they thrive in hot weather and don’t need pesticides.

That’s why we’ve stocked up on Nemi Cactus Sticks. They’re our new favorite bag snack for days when we’re out and about. They are nutritionally fortifying in addition to coming in some of our favorite flavor profiles, like chili turmeric and chipotle. Fingers crossed chamoy is next!
