FFN #6: Q3, New Freelance Jobs & More

This week: Project Management tools, juggling less and marketing insights

The Q3

August marks the mid point of Q3. It’s wild to think we are here already! As unbelievable as it is, now is the best time to start planning and strategizing for the final stretch. Get aligned by setting goals, outlining projects, and identifying potential opportunities to finish the year strong. As part of our Q4 planning, we’ve decided to switch PM tools from Notion to Click Up. Are you trying anything new as the year closes?

Often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that been opened for us.

✏️ When the wifi’s down…

Flexibility is a critical skill for a freelancer. On Friday, I got my hair done. I spent over 5 hours at the salon. I had a plan to do a few hours of work while processing in the chair. When I showed up, the wi-fi was down… and I live in a city with notoriously spotty cell reception. Instead of letting this derail my plans, I shifted gears. I worked on thought leadership based tasks for business. I came up with action plans and wrote some content… all things I didn’t need wi-fi for. I could’ve let my day go to waste, but instead… I shifted gears and made the most productive use of my time with the resources available.

✌️ Juggling less…

In the course of our businesses, it's not uncommon to find ourselves juggling numerous channels encompassing newsletters, podcasts, and social media platforms. While these avenues hold the potential to drive business, the sheer volume of “free” content channels can often lead to burnout and decreased productivity. During a recent discussion with a friend, we recognized the need to address this issue and reevaluate our approach to these free offerings. So, how can we simplify our businesses to not only provide value but also enhance profitability? Solutions include assessing and cutting channels, repurposing content, delegating or automating tasks, and exploring monetization options.

💻 Projects not worth pursuing…

We enjoyed watching this TikTok by @lindsaymhanson which serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of knowing what's unequivocally "no" when it comes to clients. As a freelancer, it's crucial to recognize that not every opportunity is a good fit, and not every project is worth pursuing. Lindsay's TikTok underscores the value of understanding your own limits, whether it's the type of work that drains your creativity or clients who don't respect your worth. By saying "no" to these detrimental aspects in your business, you open the door to more fulfilling and successful freelance experiences. Ultimately, it's about honoring your own journey and crafting a freelance career that brings you joy, purpose, and prosperity.

Go For The Gold

While we are usually good about going for a walk, doing a short meditation or doing some deep stretching around our afternoon snack break, sometimes we love to indulge in some inspirational scrolling (it’s all about balance!?). This snack bar rec comes straight from our Threads community and we’re all about it! Grab the Gold has been around for 30 years (longer than many of our community members 😳).

Grab The Gold Protein Snack Bars are gluten free, high fiber, vegan snack bars with 11g protein. In addition to simple, high-quality ingredients and small-batch production, founder Danielle Ontiveros is an absolute inspiration, rebuilding her business after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina.
