FFN #74: Here’s how you can keep your rent paid

This week: We’ve seen your Google searches - we’re here to help, Jobs & More!

Leaving the feast-famine cycle behind

Without sounding too ‘tech bro’ we’ve seen your Google searches, and we know that finding clients is arguably the hardest and most stressful aspect of freelancing. Aside from your classic job boards, how are the highest-earning freelancers keeping those leads rolling in? Well, we’ve been doing some investigating, so you don’t have to. Let’s get into it.

Every hour is a new beginning - you just don’t realise it until you experience that soul-shifting, life-changing experience you have happen in an otherwise ordinary day.

👩🏽‍💻 Your Network is Your Networth

If you want a steady stream of freelance gigs, networking needs to be part of your routine—not just something you do when work is slow. Stay active on LinkedIn, join relevant Slack or Facebook groups, sign up for industry memberships and actually engage in conversations (not just lurk!). Make it a habit to check in with past clients or collaborators every few months—sometimes, a simple “Hey, how’s business?” can lead to new projects. And don’t forget to let people know when you have availability—visibility matters!

🌶️ Variety is the Spice of Life

Another game-changer? Diversify where your leads come from. If you’ve been relying solely on job boards, start positioning yourself as an expert through content—whether it’s a blog, a newsletter, Instagram or even short LinkedIn posts. Referrals are gold, too, so make it easy for happy clients to send people your way (a simple follow-up email with a referral incentive can work wonders). The key is to avoid putting all your eggs in one basket—if one stream dries up, another should be flowing.

👀 Keep That List

Keep a “warm leads” list and nurture it. Not everyone who inquires about your services will book immediately, but that doesn’t mean they never will. Keep track of potential clients, check in occasionally, and share relevant resources that keep you top of mind. A thoughtful follow-up a few months down the line could turn a “not right now” into a “let’s do this.” Ever thought about teaming up with a fellow FF? Joining forces with someone who can offer complimentary services to you expands both your business opportunities dramatically and means you can keep clients inside your business for longer.

Furbo Camera

For my dog moms!!! Every now and again, I leave the house (wild I know), but I always just want to know what my pups are up to. So a friend suggested I buy a Furbo camera. I am so pleased I did. You can talk to them, throw treats, play music and just have peace of mind while you’re out knowing you can keep an eye on your fur child.

Runna

It feels like everyone is entering their sober girlie era and getting into running - and I’m here for it! The thing is I really don’t love running but I know its fab for my cardiovascular health. Soo, I downloaded Runna after seeing a few influencers work with them. It has helped me soo much by planning my runs and slowly getting my endurance up. Do I love running now? Not necessarily… but I am addicted to the feeling after. Although it humbles me when my Oura Ring clocks my run as ‘housework’.
