Hey FF’s,

Here’s your gentle reminder:
Not every client is meant to be forever.

If you’ve been wondering, “Should I let this one go?” Here are some signs it’s time to break up:

  • You dread their emails more than Monday mornings

  • The scope keeps growing… but the pay doesn’t

  • Your rates have increased, but they can’t (or won’t) match

  • You’ve outgrown the work — it no longer lights you up

  • The communication is draining, not energising

If you nodded yes to even one 👆, it’s officially time to move on (gracefully, of course).

So here are 2 copy-paste templates to help you out:

💌 Template 1: The Clean Break

Hi [Client’s Name],
It’s been a pleasure working on [project] together. After reviewing my upcoming workload and business direction, I won’t be able to continue our collaboration past [date].
I’m happy to recommend [freelancer/agency] who could be a great fit moving forward.
Thank you again for the opportunity — I’ve truly appreciated working with you.

🛠️ Template 2: The Soft Transition

Hi [Client’s Name],
I wanted to give you a heads-up that I’ll be shifting my focus over the next few months and won’t be available for [ongoing services] after [date].
Until then, I’m happy to help wrap up [project] and make the transition smooth.
Let me know how I can best support you before we wind things down.

Friendly reminder:
Breaking up with a client = opening space for something way more aligned. ✨
