FFN #9: Tube Girl's Confidence Lessons: What We've Learned

This week: New Freelance Jobs, Trends and Spec Projects

Hello to our wonderful community!

You may or may not have noticed we had a short fall break from sending you our field notes. We are excited to be back, the recent Tube Girl trend has us reflecting on our confidence, or lack of sometimes. Although you won’t be seeing us TikToking on public transit, we want to start channeling that inner Tube Girl confidence into our businesses to finish out the year.

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. It will live its whole life believing it’s stupid.

🚆 Channeling our inner Tube Girl

We have all seen the Tube Girl trend sweeping TikTok. At first, I thought how can Sabrina be SO confident? And can she sell this to me in a can? I often shy away from pitching opportunities or self-promotion on social media, cheers imposter syndrome. This self-doubt significantly limits the projects I pursue and, consequently, my business's growth. While you won't find me TikToking in public anytime soon, I'm embracing Sabrina's confidence in two ways: Applying for positions on the Freelancing Females Jobs Board that I feel qualified for, even if I'm not a total pro. And consistently sharing my services and client offerings on social media so clients know what I bring to the table. It's time to silence that inner doubt!

Rejection is a redirection - don’t lose hope!

As freelancers, rejection is a frequent companion on our self-employment journey, as we consistently showcase ourselves and our services. Initially, it made me uncomfortable, even leading me to accept underpaying clients – don’t recommend it! Seeking feedback, however, became my go-to approach for dealing with rejection. It provided invaluable insights into refining my pitches and services. Some clients shared they weren't ready for my services yet. Gathering feedback evolved into a powerful tool for ongoing learning and service improvement, ultimately boosting my confidence. Reflecting on this transformation has allowed me to see rejection in a fresh, more embracing light!
