The Freelancers Forum

Just like that we have arrived at Q2, where does the time go? This month we know most of us will be deep into our taxes - sending virtual hugs! However, we’d like to direct your attention away from the stresses of tax season and discuss how we can best convey our message or service so it sells.

You deserve to be here. You deserve to exist. You deserve to take up space in this world.

🧐 Understand Your Audience…

This one seems obvious but so many people don’t really know who their ICA is. Understand who your target audience is, their demographics, interests, and pain points. That way you can tailor your story/message to resonate with them which will trigger a buying response. When you’re conveying your message or service use emotion. As people we do everything off of our emotions whether we like it or not - emotional storytelling is powerful! You can do this by appealing to your audience's emotions by creating stories that evoke feelings of joy, sadness, nostalgia, or empathy. Getting to know your audience can give you good insights into what resonates. Respond to comments, messages and reviews to foster a sense of community and connection, this will foster a community of engagement and feedback which is vital for your business.

🤷🏼‍♀️ If Your Business Was a Person - Who Would They Be?

But seriously who would they be? Define your brand story, what are your values, mission and unique qualities? Each of these becomes your selling points and your ability to convey these is what will make your business thrive. Your story should be authentic to yourself and compelling. Consider using storytelling frameworks like the hero’s journey, problem-solution, or before and after to structure your story and message effectively. Remember to keep it simple and avoid jargon or complexity, instead use clear and concise language that your audience can understand.

👩🏽‍💻 Share Your Message Effectively

When it comes to sharing your message effectively the best marketing campaigns show, don't tell. You can do this by using visuals, videos, and real-life examples to bring your story to life. Show how your product or service solves a problem or improves people’s lives. Create a narrative by structuring your story with a beginning, middle, and end. You can capture attention using a hook, build tension or conflict then provide your services as a solution. Remember it takes at least seven touches to prompt a buying decision, so be consistent and ensure that your messaging aligns with your brand identity across all your channels. Consistency builds trust and credibility. Incorporating user-generated content such as stories and testimonials is a great way to add authentic and social proof to your marketing message. While you’re running your campaigns don’t be afraid to monitor the performance and pivot if it isn’t working.
