FFN #2: Jobs, Slow Season & More

Team Lunch

Remote work is a miracle of the modern age. Being able to collaborate with the absolute best team without geographical limitations is a game changer. As much as we love it, there’s still something magical about face to face collaboration. Last month we had the rare opportunity to (almost) all be in the same place and you better believe we made the most of it. A full day of co-working plus lunch & happy hour. Freelancing Females at its finest!

Learn to be thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want.

✏️ Refocus

Our directory members have been supporting each other through what feels like an especially slow, slow season. The question continuously goes back to, How do ya’ll find work when it’s slow? And when work just isn’t out there, how do you make the most of the downtime instead of letting it eat you alive. The way I usually cope with the slow season is by turning my attention to back office tasks and internal revamps that I just don’t have time for when things are rolling along. It also helps to set aside some cash, knowing that slower months are part of the cycle, so I can allow myself to approach these internal projects with ease.

📚 Get Smart

Hire people that are “smarter” than you. Great business owners aren’t intimidated by hiring people who are “smarter” or “better” than them at specific things. Hiring people that excel in areas where you fall short helps propel your business forward. It’s all about building a team and leaning into people’s expertise to grow together. You have a big vision, the people you hire should be able to make this come to life in ways that make sense to the business. The flip side here is, you need to be open to seeing that there may be “better” ways to do things than how you’ve always operated.

This Week’s Picks

01. DJI Osmo

We’ve been having a lot of fun with reels lately, and to make sure we always have the best shot, we picked up one of these beyond handy phone stabilizers. The simple but impactful tool we didn’t know we needed until we had it.

02. Bookshop.org

When off-the-clock, the team has found themselves reading Fantasy novels, our latest obsession being Fourth Wing. Every single purchase on Bookshop.org supports local stores and in turn our freelance authors, book designers and more. They also are pretty hilarious over on Threads.

Yeah, Baby

Yeah, these fruity snack packs may have been made with little ones in mind but our social team is absolutely hooked. Totally organic, non-GMO and without added sugar they’re creamy, dreamy and the perfect thing to nosh when you need a sweet treat but don’t want to be naughty.
